The Municipality of the County of Cumberland boasts a wide variety of facilities and parks throughout Cumberland County including the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre. The Community Centre is a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art venue accommodating sporting, recreational, cultural, tourism and business activities. Uniquely designed to use geothermal energy from the former Springhill Mines to heat and cool the building, the centre is the largest sporting facility in Atlantic Canada to operate on this type of environmentally-friendly power.
In 2021, the centre finalized a solar panel project. A 75 kW roof installation allows electricity to be sold directly to power utility, generating revenue and offsetting the facility’s energy consumption.
Not only does geothermal and solar energy reduce greenhouse gas emissions but it also reduces the cost of needed energy supply by approximately 50%. As such, the Community Centre is recognized by the Community Building Incentive Program of Natural Resources Canada as an energy-efficient building.
The Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre has an arena with an NHL-sized ice surface and a seating capacity of 800. There are five dressing rooms, a room for officials, a lobby, storage facilities, a canteen with kitchen, a coatroom, a meeting/boardroom, a walking track, a 3,100 square foot common room and a teen centre. The Community Centre is completely wheelchair accessible and has ample free parking available.

Teen Centre
The Ross Anderson PharmaChoice Teen Centre is open weekdays from 3:30 - 8:45 p.m. for Cumberland County high school students in grades 7-12 (including youth 12 years of age in grade 7). If attendance is low, the Teen Centre will close at 7 p.m.
The Teen Centre offers youth a place to come and enjoy board games, pool, ping pong, darts, and video games as well as weekly activities, trips and an annual Halloween party. The Teen Centre is also available to rent on the weekends for parties and gatherings. CIBC Common Room
T
he CIBC Common Room is a 3,000-square-foot multi-purpose space available to rent for weddings, celebrations, dinner theatre, training seminars, live entertainment and meetings. Complete with integrated projection screens and sound, a fully equipped, licensed kitchen and bar. A professional 24' x 12' stage, 9 sections measuring 8' x 4', with 2 sets of stairs and risers is also available. Amenities include 60" round tables, 8' rectangular tables, 6' rectangular tables, 300 black chairs, a podium, microphones and linen service.
The permitted, commercial kitchen is also available to rent separately.

Indoor Walking Track
The Walking Track is open 7 days a week from 8:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.
- No personal belongings on the track
- 5 Laps = 1 Kilometer
- 8 Laps = 1 Mile
- Rubberized surface
- No Food or Drinks (with the exception of water) on the track
- Children Under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
- Walking Track will be closed during hockey games, tournaments and special events
Sharpe Splash and Play Park
Located at 76 Mechanic St. in Springhill is the Sharpe Splash and Play Park, named after Springhill local Bev Sharpe. While some may think it's intended only for kids, there's no reason adults can't get in on the fun too! The cool water from the sprinklers and jets are refreshing, especially on hot, summer days. In addition to the water play area is a playground and public washrooms. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk from May through September. Lions Park and the Naz MacDonald Walking Trail
Lions Park is located on the corner of Main Street and Lisgar Street, next to the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre. This park has an accessible natural playground, green space, picnic tables, a playground, two baseball fields, two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a soccer field. There is parking available.
Lions Park was originally named Victoria Park for Queen Victoria. There used to be a bandstand on the corner of Main and Lisgar in Springhill where music was played every Sunday afternoon. Hurricane Hazel blew the roof off in 1952. Shortly after, the Lions purchased playground equipment and began taking care of the grounds. The park later became known as the Lions Park and the Municipality of the County of Cumberland presently owns and maintains the park. The Naz MacDonald Walking Trail named in honour of Lion Naz MacDonald is a 1.8km outdoor walking trail in Springhill that circles Lions Park. This fitness trail provides an opportunity to experience the beauty of various species of shrubs and flowers. Constructed by the Town of Springhill, Service Canada & Corrections Canada.

Ballfields
Sharpe and Pokie Memorial Fields are located adjacent to the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre. Fields feature newly constructed score boxes and are able to accommodate both baseball and softball. Public washrooms are available on-site with plenty of free parking. June Henwood Memorial Walking Trail (Pit Pond Trail)
The June Henwood Memorial Walking Trail features links to downtown Springhill and to McGee Street, a wooded trail with pond views, bridges, a water feature, lookouts extending out to the pond and access to fishing . It's a nice spot to relax or take a leisurely stroll. A gazebo, with electricity, is located in the park next to the trail and can be used for parties, summer concerts and get togethers. This trail is located at the end of Main Street.
